Syrup provides the natural flavour

Holderhof is the most important syrup producer in Switzerland. The main flavours are raspberries and elderflower. The sugar makes the syrup durable. With the chosen dilution factor, you choose the degree of sweetness in the beverage yourself.

In many people, syrup brings back fond childhood memories. They think of a glass of cool water sweetened with a little elderflower syrup, lovingly made by their grandmother in her own kitchen. At Holderhof, it is even part of the DNA. The company’s history is closely linked to the production of syrup and the large-scale, professional cultivation of elderberry trees, which was unusual in Switzerland then and still is today. For a few years now, Holderhof has also been producing syrups under the traditional “Lacobi” brand. Today, Holderhof is the Swiss market leader for syrup production, and in all kinds of flavours. And syrup is ingenious in this respect anyway: because it transports natural flavours that are otherwise only available in our country for a short period of the year or are only found in exotic countries. The latter tend to be bar syrups for refining drinks and cocktails. Holderhof mainly produces beverage syrup, in organic quality and conventional. The leader on the sales hit parade is raspberry-flavoured syrup, followed by elderflower. The latter, by the way, has displaced orange syrup from second place in recent years, which many people still know from the past.

Without preservatives

To prepare the Holderhof syrup, our experts first dissolve the sugar in hot water and refine it in the next step with the desired fruit concentrate or extract. Thanks to a unique filling process, Holderhof can dispense with artificial preservatives in its syrups. The sugar produced from beet with a content of at least 64 percent is sufficient to keep the syrup for a long time, sealed in the bottle for at least one year. With the mixing ratio used, everyone controls the sugar content in their beverage themselves and still does not have to do without a flavour. Fruit syrup is also ideal for refining the taste of ice cream, yoghurt or desserts, or as an ingredient in baked goods, sauces or dressings.

Natural raw materials

Holderhof uses high-quality, natural fruit concentrates in its syrups. If possible, it produces these itself from its own raw materials. For example, a natural extract is produced from elderflowers from the farm in Ufhofen as well as from other regional farms, which transports the popular aroma. The fruit concentrate used for the best-selling raspberry syrup comes mostly from abroad. This is one of the reasons why the Holderhof has started a project to promote the local cultivation of juice raspberries. The Holderhof is committed to local agriculture. That is why it already maintains the syrup line “made from 100 percent Swiss raw materials” (link on homepage). Syrups are still popular in Switzerland despite strong competition from sweet drinks. Our top-quality tap water offers the ideal conditions for preparing a refreshing beverage right on the spot with a variety of flavours. Somehow this also fits in quite well with the current sustainability discussions.
