Everyone knows that vegetables and fruit are healthy. The Swiss Society for Nutrition (SGE) recommends eating five portions of fruit and vegetables a day. Meeting this goal requires a certain amount of discipline, which all too often falls by the wayside in everyday life. Smoothies made from pure fruits and vegetables can help here. According to the SGE, one smoothie per day can replace one portion of fruit or vegetables in a balanced diet. But what is actually in these fruity pick-me-ups?
A natural product
Smoothies consist largely of purees made from the whole fruits and vegetables, in certain cases even including the peel. In this way, minerals and fibre that are valuable for health, as well as vitamins and antioxidants, are preserved. To make the whole thing drinkable, fruit juice is added. The Holderhof company has the most modern filling technology, which is why no preservatives are needed in its smoothies. So it’s pure nature! Adding sugar is just as unnecessary as artificial flavourings or colourings. The decisive factor is the quality of the raw materials used.
Local apples as an important component
The Holderhof company has been producing smoothies in numerous variations and different flavours for many years and accordingly has a large network of suppliers. Exotic fruits such as mango or passion fruit are particularly popular with customers. These are purchased as puree, often even in organic quality, and transported to Europe by ship (?). Since Holderhof is fundamentally committed to regional production, it is increasingly using local apple puree, for example, in the “exotic” smoothies, which is produced in its own fruit processing centre in Sulgen.
A long tradition
The history of smoothies goes back several decades. They are said to have been offered in American juice bars as early as the 1920s. A few decades later, it was fitness and health enthusiasts who were looking for a practical way to incorporate a large amount of fruit and vegetables into their diet. In the last decade, smoothies have become a staple even on supermarket shelves. But if you have enough time, you can of course also make your own smoothies to suit your own taste. Especially in summer, local berries and fruits can be mixed according to personal preferences.
Own brands for the retail trade
Holderhof is presenting its own smoothie brand «Fruit Rules» The mixtures produced promise a lot of excitement and are sure to provide quite a few taste explosions. These range from a mix of pear-beetroot-ginger to lychee-passion fruit-guarana and the classic strawberry-banana. More and more retailers in Switzerland and abroad are also benefiting from Holderhof’s expertise in smoothies, haben their own brands developed and produced by us. And often even in organic quality.
